Date Established and Background
SHELTER is a registered welfare organisation established in 1981 to provide care for abused, abandoned, neglected or at-risk children through home care, counselling and therapy sessions. They have effectively raised public awareness on child abuse, parenting and youth issues and aim to educate the public about child care and detecting signs of an abused child.

Vision and Mission
Giving children at risk a childhood and the future they deserve by protecting, guiding, healing them and by building loving families and strong communities.

Shelter's mission
To rescue and protect children from the trauma of physical and sexual abuse, extreme neglect, abandonment and domestic violence. To help children overcome their initial trauma and restore self acceptance, dignity and their trust in humanity by giving them unconditional love, care and an education To unite the children with their families where possible To reinforce the above by regular follow up so that they can become useful citizens.

Management and Staff
Shelter is governed by a Board of Directors (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and 4 Committee Members) and a full time Executive Director overseeing 40 salaried staff.

Accounts and Auditors
Shelter's accounts are audited by Horwath.

Funding Needs
Shelter currently cares for over 80 children in the 4 Shelter homes and under its Family and Community Services program Shelter provides education for refugee children. Shelter requires approximately RM150,000 per month to fund its operating costs.
